Immigration Laws – The Right Lawyer
Attorney Matt Catchick of the Dailey Law Firm explains to a caller why it is important to hire an expert, one familiar with the nuances of a given legal area.
Male Speaker 1: We’ve got another caller here. We’ve got Nick from Auburn Hills, who is calling in. Nick, you’re on the Law Show, what can we do for you?
Male Speaker 2: I was calling with reference to a friend’s wife who called me she called to he was picked up by the police stopped pulled over, she doesn’t know what the reason was for and then she was notified that I guess on Tuesday he will be sent to immigration in Detroit. And she doesn’t know what to do and I don’t know how to advice her certainly and I don’t know if it’s a Green Card issue or with the case that she has been married for 3 years and they have a 2 year old child and I know that she was born and raised in the United Sates, she is a US citizen, I’m sure about [inaudible] [0:00:45] status as a illegal alien, Green Card holder or what the case might be?
Male Speaker 1: And he is married to the woman and you said you don’t know why they were pulled over or anything like that.
Male Speaker 2: She said that the police wouldn’t tell her why he was pulled over.
Male Speaker 1: All right. Once again to all the listeners out there, there are a couple of things whenever you’re selecting a lawyer make sure first of all that the lawyer specializes in your area of the law. Secondly, you want to make sure that they’ve got some valuable experience, at least 5 preferably 10 years or more. And you want to make sure they practice in the locality where your case involves. And so in your situation Nick you should definitely advice the woman to sit down and consult with an immigration attorney. There are many immigration attorneys in the metro Detroit area. She should get a specialist make sure you get someone who specializes in immigration law. If you want to call the office tomorrow morning I have a handful of names of immigration lawyers because as a divorce attorney lots of times immigration issues come up in my line of work. I always make sure I bring in a specialist to consult so that I don’t do or say something that jeopardizes someone’s immigration status but right away have your sister consult with an immigration law attorney so they can advice her because immigration law on the whole is governed by federal law not state law. So you want to make sure you get a specialist in that field and again feel free to call me at the office tomorrow even though its President’s Day, we’re open all day, call me at 1866-66 lawyer and I’ll be happy to give some names to her, okay, Nick.
