Why Does My Insurance Company Need My Social Security Number?
A caller’s employer asked for the social security numbers of all of his dependents. Why would they need those? Brian explains that many insurance companies track their insureds with their SS numbers and there is nothing wrong with that per se. The employer and the insurance company are under affirmative duties to safeguard and protect that information. You only need to worry — and call an attorney — if they let that information get out.

Can I Sue the Power Company?
A caller has had numerous power outages which cause damage to his home. Instead of filing a claim with his homeowner’s insurance, could he file suit? Brian explains that he could, but the cost of hiring an attorney and filing suit would probably make it economically unfeasible. Sit down with an attorney and discuss all your options.

Social Security Denied Me
Matt and Justin explain that the Social Security Administration often turns people down, only to have those decisions reversed once an attorney gets involved. Matt suggests the caller should find an attorney well-versed in this area of the law and fight the decision.

Insurance Interpretation Issues . . .
A caller who had a perfect driving record had a small scrape, hitting his own trailer. Matt explains that the insurance company may be able to call that an accident — depending on how the policy is worded. Great advice for everyone: Get a copy of your policy and read it now! Don’t wait until you have the accident to find out what your policy says.
