Brian explains to a caller that settling a workman’s compensation claim — in any state — is something that requires expertise and much thought. There could be ramifications with social security later, and even a settlement might not be the best idea. If your attorney is aggressive, why not go to trial?

Matt and Justin explain that the Social Security Administration often turns people down, only to have those decisions reversed once an attorney gets involved. Matt suggests the caller should find an attorney well-versed in this area of the law and fight the decision.

Brian explains that sometimes, non-compete agreements are enforceable, but the only way to find out for sure is to hire a good attorney — well-versed in labor law — and have them go over the contract with a fine-toothed comb.

Brian points out that even on a non-profit organization board, a person could face some liability. It is important to find out and understand exactly what the organization does and then to examine whether you might need extra insurance coverage to make yourself safer.
